Most gas boilers take care of the central heating and the hot water in your home. You might be unsure as to what type of boiler you have. Don’t worry as I can help.

Gas boilers have been in the news recently. Are they efficient? Will they get phased out? Is my gas boiler due to be replaced? If your gas boiler is over ten years old, then chances are it is not as efficient as it could be. Currently there are several types of gas boiler: combi, system (or cylinder) and open vent. Each boiler is suitable for different types of domestic home.
As we are becoming more aware of our carbon footprint, one of the easiest things you can do is firstly check you’ve got the right type of boiler installed in your home. Then you need to check when it was last serviced – once is year in the minimum and this help your domestic boiler remain as efficient as possible. This also helps reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide leakage, which can be deadly.

It depends on the type of boiler, its capacity and if any additional works need to be carried out. A new boiler can be fitted in as little as a day. A system which needs overhauling will take longer and I can always provide a guide as to the timescale.
Boiler installs can vary from around £1800 including VAT to around £4000 including VAT. That is just a approx figure as there can be quite a few variables ie new controls, radiators etc.
As with all gas boilers and radiators, there is the pressure to consider along with water temperature. These will be set before I leave your premises.
The cost of a domestic boiler service is £60 plus VAT. Also if unvented cylinder is serviced at the same time, it’s an additional £30 plus VAT. The cost over the year is minimal and it can prevent bigger costs further down the line.
New filters, a leaking pipe, a faulty radiator, thermostat problems, strange noises coming from your boiler, and the pilot light switching off … these are just some of the issues that can occur. Other common hiccups are hot water and no heating, no heating or hot water, problems with thermostat, low boiler pressure, boiler switching off or not responding to the thermostat controls along with lots of other issues. Depending on its age, repairing a boiler can be worthwhile. As a rule, boilers aged ten year or more are not as efficient, however this is not always the case.
